Psychosocial Recovery Coaching in Melbourne

Empowering NDIS participants to build independence and resilience through specialised mental health support.

Your Guide to Psychosocial Recovery Coaching in Melbourne

At 360 Support Coordination, our Melbourne-based psychosocial recovery coaches help NDIS participants with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities. A psychosocial recovery coach is an NDIS-funded support worker with mental health expertise. They spend time with you to understand your needs, help you navigate your NDIS plan, and connect you with the right services.

According to the NDIS, recovery coaches assist people with psychosocial disability to increase their independence, social participation and control over their lives. This means they guide you through complex daily challenges and support you to achieve your personal goals.

Why Choose 360 Support Coordination for Recovery Coaching in Melbourne

Our psychosocial recovery coaching is friendly, professional, and locally focused. We know that recovery is personal – that’s why we take a holistic, strength-based approach.

Our Melbourne coaches take the time to understand your unique journey, offering personalised strategies that build resilience, improve daily living skills, and support long-term mental health recovery goals.

Each coach has mental health qualifications (at least Cert IV or equivalent) and/or lived experience. This meets NDIS recommendations for recovery coaches, so you get support from someone who truly understands.

We consider all aspects of your life – mental, social, emotional and practical – in your recovery plan. We focus on building your resilience and daily living skills so you can regain confidence and control.

We know the Melbourne health and disability network. Your coach helps link your NDIS plan with mainstream mental health services and community supports, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

We work collaboratively with you to set realistic recovery goals and celebrate every win. Our coaches guide you step-by-step, developing personalized strategies that help you manage stress and build skills over time.

If you already have a support coordinator or clinical team, we liaise closely with them. Your recovery coach will sit alongside your support plan, complementing other NDIS supports (like Level 2 or Level 3 Support Coordination) to maximize your outcomes.

Choosing 360 Support Coordination means choosing a local Melbourne team that cares. We’re proud to work in the communities we live in, and our coaches are committed to making your recovery journey a positive one.

What Our Psychosocial Recovery Coaches Do

A psychosocial recovery coach does more than just listen – they take action. They coach you through practical steps to improve wellbeing and navigate life with your disability. Key ways we help include:

Each participant’s journey is unique, and your coach tailors their support to your situation. In essence, a psychosocial recovery coach is like a bridge between your NDIS supports and the mental health supports you need – all working towards one goal: your recovery and independence.

Who Is Psychosocial Recovery Coaching For?

Psychosocial recovery coaching is designed for NDIS participants living with a psychosocial disability — this includes mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia that significantly affect daily life. The NDIS recognises the importance of this support and funds recovery coaching for eligible participants.

If your NDIS plan includes “psychosocial disability” under the Capacity Building category, you can access this service. Not sure if it’s included? Speak with your NDIS planner or support coordinator — they can help you add a recovery coach to your plan if needed.

Who Benefits Most from Recovery Coaching?

You might benefit from a psychosocial recovery coach if you:

  • Have difficulty managing relationships, emotions, or day-to-day tasks.
  • Want to build life skills and confidence to pursue study, work, or social goals.
  • Struggle to coordinate support services or feel overwhelmed by the system.
  • Already have support coordination but need additional mental health-focused support.
  • Feel isolated, stuck, or unsure of where to turn for guidance.

Our recovery coaches provide the structured, compassionate support you need to move forward, one step at a time.

Our 6-Step Psychosocial Recovery Coaching Process

We make it simple to get started and stay supported. Here’s how our service works:

1

Contact & Referral

You reach out to us by phone, email or online booking, or your NDIS planner/LAC refers you to 360 Support Coordination. We're based in Melbourne, and we serve participants across the city and surrounding areas.

2

Free Initial Consultation

We arrange a friendly meeting (in person or via phone/video) to learn about you, your NDIS plan, and what you want to achieve. We'll explain how recovery coaching works and answer your questions.

3

Plan & Paperwork

If you decide to proceed, we complete the necessary documents (consent, service agreement, etc.) quickly. We can often guide you to add recovery coaching to your NDIS plan if it's not already included – just ask your support coordinator or planner.

4

Intake & Assessment

One of our coaches will meet with you to do a thorough intake. We discuss your history, strengths, challenges and any current supports. This helps us create a personalized recovery plan.

5

Begin Coaching Sessions

We schedule regular coaching sessions at times and places that suit you (e.g. in your home, our office or via telehealth). Your coach works with you on your agreed recovery goals, provides resources, and monitors your progress.

6

Review & Ongoing Support

Every 6–8 weeks, we sit down (even briefly) to review how things are going. Together we celebrate your successes and adjust your plan if needed. Your coach remains available throughout your NDIS plan to ensure consistent support and to help you use your funding effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a psychosocial recovery coach?

A psychosocial recovery coach is an NDIS-funded specialist who helps people with mental health disabilities live more independently. They provide coaching (not counselling) to build life skills and connect supports.

Who pays for recovery coaching?

It's typically funded through your NDIS plan under Capacity Building supports. Your plan must list a psychosocial disability. You don't pay out of pocket; your coach charges the NDIS hour rate (about $80/hr) once it's approved.

How do I get a recovery coach?

Talk to your NDIS planner, Local Area Coordinator or current support coordinator. They can add psychosocial recovery coaching to your plan. If you already have a plan, ask them to review it. We're also happy to speak with your LAC or coordinator on your behalf.

How often will I meet my coach?

It depends on your needs. Some people start with weekly sessions, others fortnightly or monthly. The key is consistency – we recommend regular meetings (at least monthly) to keep on track. Your coach will work with you to find a schedule that fits your plan and goals.

Can I have both a support coordinator and a recovery coach?

In many cases, yes. However, the NDIS often advises choosing a recovery coach instead of an additional support coordinator if your main challenge is mental health, since the coach can also help with planning and links to services. But if your plan is large and complex, you can have both roles under certain conditions.

Are your coaches qualified and registered?

Absolutely. All our coaches meet or exceed the recommended qualifications (minimum Cert IV in Mental Health/Peer Work or equivalent experience). We are a registered NDIS provider, so every coach is vetted and meets national standards.

What areas do you cover?

360 Support Coordination is based in Melbourne and serves participants across the city and nearby regions. We know local services and can offer in-person support if you're in Metropolitan Melbourne. We also provide phone/video sessions when needed.
